During a briefing for reporters, Vinyals showcased the capabilities of the new Gemini 1.5 Pro, emphasising its efficiency and advanced processing power. 

"Gemini 1.5 Pro punches above its weight in part because it’s engineered for efficiency, both when it’s being trained and when it’s generating content.” commented Oriol Vinyals, Google DeepMind Principal Scientist

One of the most notable features is the expansion of Gemini's context window to two million tokens, allowing it to process vast amounts of data simultaneously — from two hours of video to over 1.4 million words.

This enhancement could revolutionise how we interact with digital content, making AI more integrated into daily tasks and decision-making processes.

Pichai reflected on the moment, stating, "We’ve been investing in AI for more than a decade — and innovating at every layer of the stack: research, product, infrastructure, and we’re going to talk about it all today". 

He introduced the Gemini era, highlighting the model's ability to reason across text, images, video, code, and more, marking a significant step in AI's evolution.

OpenAI's GPT-4o: Multimodal and User-Friendly

"This is the first time we're making a huge step forward when it comes to the ease of use. The interaction becomes much more natural and far, far easier".

Altman also shared his excitement about the new voice (and video) mode, describing it as "the best computer interface I’ve ever used" and likening it to AI from the movies.

He noted the significant change brought about by achieving human-level response times and expressiveness, making interactions with computers feel natural for the first time.

“Talking to a computer has never felt really natural for me; now it does” Open AI CEO said enthusiastically.
